Open-source licenses

Last updated 2026-10-07

Ping Tools Lab runs in your browser and is built on open-source software. This page lists the components that carry a license with notice or source requirements and tells you where to get their source code.

libheif-js, libheif and libde265 (HEIC decoder)

The image converter can open HEIC and HEIF photos, such as those from an iPhone. Most browsers cannot read them, so when yours cannot, the page downloads a small decoder and runs it on your device. Your photo is not uploaded. The decoder is only fetched when you add a HEIC or HEIF file that your browser cannot open itself.

We have not changed these libraries. The two files we serve, the loader (libheif.js) and the WebAssembly module (libheif.wasm), are byte-for-byte the files from the libheif-js 1.23.5 package, kept as separate files rather than merged into the site's own code. This lets you replace them with another build of the same libraries, for example your own, as the LGPL allows. The license text is also available at /vendor/libheif/LICENSE.

@mediabunny/mp3-encoder and LAME (MP3 encoder)

The Video to MP3 & GIF tool encodes audio to MP3 on your device. Most browsers cannot encode MP3 themselves, so when yours cannot, the page runs an MP3 encoder built from LAME and compiled to WebAssembly. The encoder is only used when you make an MP3; your video is not uploaded.

We have not changed the package. It ships its worker and WebAssembly module as separate, unmodified files inside the package, kept apart from the site's own code, so you can replace them with another build of the same libraries, as the LGPL allows.

Everything else

The rest of the site's code uses other open-source packages under permissive licenses such as MIT. Their license notices are kept with the packages the site is built from.
