How to combine an ID card front and back into one PDF
Combine the front and back of an ID card into one PDF. Add both photos in your browser, pick 2 images per page and download the file.
A form asks for the front and back of your ID in one file, and it will not take two separate photos. Do not send them one at a time. Add both photos to the Images to PDF tool in your browser, choose 2 images per page, and download a single PDF with the two sides on the same page. The PDF is built in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
Steps
- Open the Images to PDF tool at
/tools/images-to-pdf/. - Add both photos by dropping them on the page or tapping to pick. JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB each. Add them in the order you want them shown, then check the result.
- Choose 2 images per page, then pick the layout and orientation for the PDF.
- Download the PDF and save it to your device.
Two images per page
The tool puts images on an A4 page at 1, 2 or 4 per page, and you pick the layout and orientation before you download. Two per page is the setting for an ID card: the front photo and the back photo go on one page, which is what a form means when it asks for both sides in a single file. One per page gives each side its own page, and four per page is for several photos at once. Add them in the order you want, and open the downloaded file once to check that both sides came through and are readable.
When the form wants a different file
If the form wants something other than a PDF, the neighbouring tools cover it. It asks for one image instead: add both photos to the combine images tool and stack them, or place them side by side, and download the combined image. You already have two separate PDFs: add them to the merge tool and put them back in the order you want. A photo is over the 30 MB per-file limit: the image resizer resizes and compresses a photo in your browser first. For photos in general, the guide at /articles/photos-to-pdf/ walks through turning them into a PDF.
